Stopping an Active Leak

Project Prep

• Wear PPE: Ensure personal protective equipment is worn due to the heat generated by the mix.
• Understand the Material: Recognize that Sakrete Leak Stopper Hydraulic Cement is a special blend that sets rapidly.
• Clean the Surface: Area to be plugged must be free of unsound concrete, grease, oil, paint and any other foreign materials that will inhibit performance. A wire brush is useful in scraping away all loose material.
• Set the Stage: Dampen area to be plugged before applying product. All holes or cracks should be opened to a minimum depth and width of 3/4 in (19 mm) to allow enough material for proper expansion and bond. Square cut or undercut to avoid leaving a “V” shaped opening.

For best results all materials should be stored at 40°F (4°C) to 80°F (27°C) 24 hours prior to installation.

Safety Notes: Read and understand the SDS before using this product. Wear protective clothing and equipment. Wear gloves at all times. Failure to do so can result in severe burns. Keep out of reach of children.

Mixing

• Mix Ratio: Start with a 3 to 1 ratio of water to powder.
• Achieve Consistency: Aim for a “glistening snowball” consistency, adding more powder if necessary.

Application

• Create the Leak: Simulate a leak to demonstrate the stopping process.
• Apply the Plug: Form a snowball with the material and hold it over the hole to stop the water. Keep pouring water to ensure that the Leak Stopper is actively holding back the hydrostatic pressure.
